Basic Craps Terminology
Before you start gambling study the most regular terminology that can be met in the craps and puzzle you if you play craps for the first time. The understanding of them may amend your craps talents.
Any Craps Bet - bet that a 2, 3 or 12 will come up in the next roll. The payout of bet is 7 to 1.
Any Seven Bet - betting that number 7 comes out with the next shot. The payout of bet is 4 to 1.
Big 6 and Big 8 Bet - betting that a 6 or 8 occurs before 7 in the next shot. The payoff is 1/1.
Big Red Bet -bet that any 7 occurs with the next dice throw.
Buy Bets - the bets that allow to bet that a 4, 10, 5, 9, 6, or 8 comes out with the next shot before a 7 (after the Come Out roll). Every craps player is charged 5% commission on these bets whether the bet appears to be winning or is simply placed.
Come Box - the betting area of the table for Come wagers.
Come Bet - bet that the dice pass in the next dice roll.
Come Out Roll - the first roll of the game. This roll establishes the “point” for Pass and Don't pass bets.
Crap - the numbers 2, 3, and 12 that determined the name of the dice game.
Dealer - the person who works at the table. As a rule two dealers operate the dice table.
Don't Come Bet - bet that the dice don’t pass in the next throw.
Don't Pass Line - the betting area of the table for Don’t Pass bets.
Don't Pass Bet - bet that a 2 or 3 is rolled in the Come out roll. The bet wins in case a 7 is rolled on the dice earlier than the point.
Field Bet - bet that a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12 is rolled with the next dice roll. The payout on 3, 4, 9, 10, or 11 is 1/1, for numbers 2 or 12 – 2/1.
Hard Way - bet that "hard" (the same numbers occurring on both dice) 4, 6, 8, 10 comes out on the next dice shot before a "soft" 4, 6, 8 or 10 or a 7 is thrown.
Horn Bet - betting that number 2, 3, 11, or 12 comes up on the next shot.
Lay Bet - the bets that give the chance to bet that number 7 comes up before numbers 4, 10, 5, 9, 6, or 8. Every player must pay 5% commission on lay bets.
Pass or Pass-Line Bet - betting that a 7 or 11 occurs in the next dice throw or a point number falls out before 7. This bet is placed before the Come Out roll. In case a 2, 3, or 12 comes up or number 7 appears on the dice earlier than the point the bet is loser.
Place Bets - bets which allow to wager on place numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10. The Place bets happen to win when one place number appears on the dice earlier than a 7.
Point - number 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 which comes up on the dice in the Come Out roll.
Right Bettor - the craps player who places bet on the Pass Line.
Shooter - the gambler who shoots the dice.
Stickman - person who makes the shot and is in charge of making proposition bets.
Vig or Vigorish - the commission charged for some particular bets.
Wrong Bettor - the player who places bet on the Don't Pass Line.
